Objective: To Develop quality consciousness and understanding about standardization among the students and staff of Ambala College of Engineering and Applied Research
To commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s First Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad celebrated as National Education Day by developing quality consciousness and understanding about standardization among the students and staff of Ambala College of Engineering and Applied Research, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and IETE Student Forum in collaboration with Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) organized a guest lecture on Educational Utilization of Indian Standards under the aegis of Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) on 16/11/2022 at SAC Seminar Hall. The program started with the welcome of guest speakers Mr. Nikhil N. Chandratre (Assistant Director/ Scientist-B), Ms. Anushka Srivastava (Standards Promotion Officer), and Mr. Arvind Thakur (Graduate Engineer Trainee) from BIS, Chandigarh by Dr. Kamal Kumar Sharma (Principal ACE), Gp. Capt. CS Sharma (Registrar ACE), Dr. Vijay Kumar Anand (HOD, ECE Department), and other faculty members. Er. Divya Sharma, Assistant Professor, ECE Department introduced guests to the audience.
During this lecture Mr. Nikhil N. Chandratre talked about the establishment of BIS, the Process of formulation of Indian Standards, and Indian Standards on products related to Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He focused his talk on the design of LPG cylinders alongside the calculation of Stress, Thickness, and Material requirement. He also explained various testing methods used in the industry to check the reliability of LPG cylinders. In the end, he emphasized on the use of the BIS Care App to verify the originality of many products. He said that a large nos. of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) mandating compulsory BIS certification products are since being issued by Govt. of India, and demand for technical man-power with exposure to standardization and quality control activity is bound to increase in coming years. Students, faculty, and staff gained knowledge on various BIS standards aimed to protect the consumers’ interests by providing safe, reliable, and quality goods and services. Dr. Kamal Kumar Sharma presented memorabilia to the guests after the lecture.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Er. Paavan (IIC President, and Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology). Refreshment sponsored by BIS was served to all the participants.
Outcome: Students, faculty and staff gained knowledge on various BIS standards aimed to protect the consumers’ interests by providing safe, reliable and quality goods and services.
